DIY Ribbon Wands
Brooke made these ribbon wands for one of her brides. It’s charming sendoff that will be certainly accepted in any venue as an alternative to sparklers.
What you’ll need:
– 12-inch dowels
– spray paint (optional)
– lightweight ribbon
– scissors
– glue gun
– lighter
Step 1 (optional): Spray paint your dowels.
Step 2. Cut your ribbon into desired lengths (I recommend a good three feet of ribbon per ribbon wand).
Step 3. Tie a knot at the end of the length of ribbon around one end of your dowel. Trim any excess ribbon off the shorter end of ribbon.
Step 4. Add a dab of hot glue behind the knot and press firmly onto the dowel. Set overnight.
Step 5. After setting, JUST BARELY hold the edges of your ribbon over a flame. This will melt the cut edges so the ribbons won’t fray.
Step 6. Display vases or buckets at your reception.

Thanks so much for the “how-to” – I’m going to make these for our wedding in August.
My daughter loves this idea and we think it is a great ‘send off’ idea. We would like to make them ourselves. Do not know what diameter size dowels to use and would like suggestions on painting the dowels. Also we have found the ‘Christmas” bells but would love to use ‘Wedding” bells. Any suggestions as to where to find them?

I love this idea! My fiancé and I are using the local zoo as our planned venue, and they’re extremely restrictive about what you can use for a send off. (You can’t even use bubbles!) This is one of the few non-traditional ideas I’ve seen that I’d be able to use, and as a bonus, it’s gorgeous!
