DIY Virginia Wedding

Our week at Ruffled couldn’t have started any better than sharing a real wedding from a reader, with lots of DIY ideas. The bride, Lindsay, also found her only vendor, the talented photographer Heather España via Ruffled. Need I say more?

Now, more from the bride, Lindsay:

When we got engaged, my mind started reeling. I was never the girl who had her wedding day completely planned out from the time I was little. In fact, I have a hard time planning anything! All of that changed the moment Ben slipped that ring on my finger. Luckily, my friends and family were ready for some good old fashioned hard work. Ben and I both knew we didn’t want to have a “cookie-cutter” wedding. We didn’t want to go to a random venue and have someone tell us what we could and couldn’t do on the biggest day of our life. We wanted to celebrate the way we wanted to celebrate. We decided to have the wedding in my parents backyard. The only person we actually hired was our amazing photographer, Heather Espana (I found her on Ruffled Blog!) Everyone else was either a friend or a family member.

The beautiful invitations and flowers were done by my oh-so-talented bridesmaid Raygan Ketterer. Our friend Cullen of L&A Tenting provided the spectacular tent. The delicious gourmet comfort food was done by my cousin Kim Graham of Thyme Savor Catering. Our delightful mini-cake was baked with love by my friend Alex Kalber. The rest of the desserts were made by family members. The rocking band that kept the dance floor packed all night was my younger brother Ramsey and friends Adam, Paul, and Sam.

  • I adore all the outside drapery…it brings the outdoors inside for an intimate, homey feel. And you can never go wrong with a vintage popcorn machine! This is DIY lovely.

  • YAY HEATHER! Beautiful work as always! Beautiful bride & groom – stunning event all around.

  • Lovely, lovely, lovely Heather! Such fantastic details. Pure Virginia.

  • Oh this wedding I just heart! I love them together and I don’t even know them…but their smiles say it all! The details are sooo cute – the burlap is simple but stunning as a backdrop and wrapped around the bouquet. All of it is gorgeous!!!
