Danette+ Matthew's Handmade Wedding, Part II

Continuing with Danette and Matthew’s wedding shot by the talented Jenny Jimenez , here are snippets of what the groom (yes, the groom!) had to say about their wedding day:

The goal for our wedding day was for it to be simple, stress free, and totally us. We knew we wanted our wedding to be modern, playful, and full of friends and family. We focused on using the fewest, but most essential vendors that we needed and the rest we did ourselves. All of our vendors were awesome! We can’t stress enough how important our photographer, venue, caterer and DJ were. Food played a major part in our wedding, from serving a whole roasted pig at dinner to using test tubes filled with homemade spice rub as the escort cards. Even the table numbers had a pig graphic on them. We did the candy and cupcake buffet with a fun yellow and white striped tablecloth and custom signage.

The escort card table was made from test tubes I got from University of Washington Surplus. We then filled them with a spice rub mix I made that I use on roasted pork. Each tube had a custom label with the guests name and table number and a little pig graphic on top. The table was made by spray gluing a piece of yellow gingham to a piece of styrofoam insulation. I used a apple core to cut out individual holes that the tubes fit snugly in.

Because we had a candy buffet, we had yellow chinese take out boxes at each place setting for guests to fill them up with. We used simple circle stickers printed with our wedding logo on one side and a brief instruction on the other. For one guest in a wheelchair, I attached little “wheels” to the box, to look like a wheelchair. It was awesome and got a big laugh.

The candy and cupcake buffet had custom cards in cool fonts to describe each item. Since we didn’t want a cake to feed all the guests, we had our friend Van Ly make us a small bride & groom cake and we topped it with a custom topper from Etsy.

Since I have family in Hawaii; during the ceremony we exchanged leis. We also had my best man read an excerpt from Dr. Seuss “Oh the places you will go”.

The day ran seamlessly together, and there is nothing we would have changed about it!
