Colorful Wedding at Hotel Ballard
How could we resist a wedding with so many cheery colors and details? Leah and Justin’s Seattle wedding is an absolute dream, thanks to Leah’s vision and the incredible work of Troy Grover Photographers, Chambers and Company, and Lola Floral. We absolutely love that the initial inspiration for their wedding day was the orange sapphire stone in the bride’s engagement ring, which lent the perfect cheeriness and truly set the tone for the day.
From the bride, Leah: We wanted a modern, urban wedding that was warm and welcoming and would set the scene for a kick-ass party! My engagement ring center stone is a true orange sapphire, so that was the starting point for our color palette. Because we didn’t have a traditional wedding party who needed to purchase dresses months in advance and didn’t care if our save-the-dates matched our decor (our save-the-date was a basic, non-blog worthy e-mail), we could work with our planner and florist to let the color palate unfold throughout the planning process. The warm oranges were complemented by the greenery and the blue napkins and accent table cloths were a last minute addition to further ground the hot hues.
Another element informed the whole feel of the event were the hanging kokedamas. When our florist, Emily, presented the idea, we were immediately drawn to their organic but modern look. Our florist hung them throughout to warm up the modern rooftop space. Because they are each handmade, she was able to incorporate orange flowers to draw the orange theme throughout.
Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Planning our wedding from across the country made it difficult to DIY, but we did ask Leah’s Seattle-based Dad and Grandma “Mutti” to contribute some personal touches. My Dad has a unique gift of making figurines with champagne cages and put his skill to use creating our pretty amazing, one-of-a-kind cake topper. Mutti (84 years old) baked over 100 of her classic chocolate chip cookies to include in the dessert buffet. Guests loved the cookies so much they were taking them into the photo booth for photo-ops and hoarding bunches to take back to their hotel rooms for a midnight snack.
