Colorful Handmade Phoenix Wedding

Colorful Handmade Phoenix Wedding

I’ll never cease to be amazed by the magic that results in so many of our DIY weddings. Laura and Felix had an intimate wedding in Phoenix surrounded by only 40 of their nearest and dearest, including Laura’s extra-precious son. Sarah Rhodes of Arrow & Apple captured the couple’s wedding day, which was in shortage of color and fun:

From the bride, Laura: Felix and I were set on a small wedding using local vendors and DIY. Once we set a date, we booked a local bed & breakfast for our entire wedding weekend. My dress was handmade by Monique, owner of Cleo & Clementine (she’s also the genius behind OUMA Clothing on Etsy). My dress was one of 3 she made me, and I did not see it until it was complete – just days before the wedding. I did my own hair and makeup. We chose to not have a bridal party.

My dad and 6-year-old son walked me down the aisle to a live acoustic version of “Such Great Heights.” A friend officiated and together we all wrote our 5 minute ceremony. For our first dance, my brother played and sang an acoustic version of “Every Thug Needs a Lady” by Alkaline Trio. The rest of the night, we used our Spotify playlist with our favorite songs. A local food truck rolled in and served a casual dinner. Other DIY projects included flowers, bouquet, sandwich boards, cake stands, drink tags, succulent favors, a lighted AZ marquee, banners, yarn art, cross-stitched hoop art, papel picado using our photos as patterns, lace ceremony backdrop, hundreds of pom poms, and guest board. The entire night we enjoyed the company of 40 or so of our closest friends and family.

My advice to couples in the planning stages, is to not sweat the small stuff and trust your gut. Find like-minded people you enjoy working with! lastly, don’t conform! If there is something you don’t want to do… don’t do it! Do what feels right for your day.
