Cincinnati Summer Wedding

How sweet is it that the father of the bride in today’s wedding from Braun Photography constructed a set of free-standing doors for the ceremony? Father and daughter walked through those very doors before Tiffanee exchanged vows with her new hubby, JT. I absolutely adore the use of scrabble tiles throughout the reception space – take a look!

From the bride, Tiffanee: When we first started planning, I had a general vision of how I wanted our wedding to feel. We had been to a lot of weddings in the last year, so we wanted ours to be unique. I knew I wanted it to be elegant but not fussy, outdoors and be a reflection of who we are. Being an art teacher, it had to have a lot of handmade goodness!

One of the things we knew we wanted was a campfire and s’mores, which was perfect for early May in Ohio. We are kind of game nerds, so we chose to use scrabble tiles as our table markers. My dad made the giant scrabble tiles for each table and each escort card had a corresponding game piece. We also used scrabble pieces to make little signs for things like the guest book. JT loves bourbon, so we collected empty bourbon bottles to hold water for each table and since we got married on derby day our signature cocktail was a Mint Julep. On a whim we decided to forgo a big cake in favor of homemade gourmet Rice Krispie Treats.

Instead of a unity candle, we did a unity painting. I used a resistant material to write a scripture on a small canvas. We each had a jar of paint that we poured into a bowl and mixed to make a new color and painted the canvas. Once it was dry we rubbed away the resist, leaving the scripture in white. One of my favorite details was the freestanding double doors my dad constructed for me to walk through during our ceremony. Getting them to stand up was a labor of love, for sure!

What advice would you offer to someone planning their wedding now? Make your wedding a celebration of you! Even when your mom looks at you at you and says “really, Rice Krispie treats?” or “you’re going to paint in your wedding dress?!” Those are things you will tell your kids about someday. And seriously, pick a great photographer! You won’t regret it!

  • I love the “We Love Because He First Loved Us” banner. It is BEAUTIFUL. You had a lovely wedding. 🙂

  • Can you tell me where the cake topper can be found? I am planning on having doors at our wedding ceremony as well and would love to have a cake topper to mirror that!

  • I love the hankys and your display. Where did you order these hankys from?
