Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse Wedding

Our hearts may have fluttered just a bit looking through these images from A Love Supreme, but how could they not? Bride Kathryn and her new husband Ryan furnished their own wedding by hand, and tackled project upon project for a truly unique and personal day. Our absolute favorite detail has to be the “kissing tree” — what a sweet addition to such a beautiful affair!

From the bride, Kathryn: We were so fortunate to have found such an amazing venue for our wedding. The rolling hills and enchanting farmhouse already provided a beautiful backdrop so we decided to keep things pretty simple. Instead of renting everything, we opted to purchase several items which helped to save money and give it a more unique feel. We wanted to play off the farmhouse’s vintage aesthetic so what decor we did use we had purchased with that in mind. We scoured thrift stores, Craigslist, and Etsy for various vintage goodies. Our biggest travail was our hunt for mismatched antique silverware and lace tablecloths, but in the end it was well worth it.

One of my favorite finds was a bright coral settee and matching chair which we lugged up to the venue and placed under a tree outside; the contrast against the rustic background really made them statement pieces. We designed our own invitations and had them screen printed onto linen fabric by Ike Fonesca of Rebel Rose Clothing in Portland, OR. Since some of our guests had to be shuttled up to the venue fairly early before the ceremony, we knew we had to keep them entertained. Not only did they have 150 acres of land to explore (complete with ostriches, goats, and a pond), we provided outdoor games such as bocce and horseshoes, and a kissing tree to boot.

Overall, our wedding was everything we had hoped it would be, but we wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of our friends and family. Many a friend and many a night was spent laboring over the invitations (narrowly escaping carpal tunnel after placing hundreds of grommets), spray-painting mason jars, and stenciling table numbers. Of course, on the actual wedding day nothing runs as smoothly as planned, but it was amazing to see everyone come together to create an absolutely memorable experience. Bottom line… DIY is a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot of work!
