Botanical Texas Wedding with Ferns

We love Alkesta and Curt’s wedding from Korie Lynn Photography because it fuses together many of our favorite things: nontraditional ideas, bohemian ease, a bit of Wes Anderson cheekiness, and intricate floral arrangements by The Moss & Rose. The bouquets alone had at least 20 different types of flowers and foliage in each arrangement – talk about botanical heaven!

From the florist, The Moss & Rose: Translating Wes Anderson’s style into flowers without going too bohemian or woodsy took a while to think through. What we finally settled on was an eclectic, bright, very detailed flower style, with a tiny bit of woodland feel against a very clean, modern backdrop of The Grove.

The bouquets were intense! There were upwards of 20 or more flower and foliage varieties in each bouquet! The bougainvillea in the bridesmaids bouquets was a fun locally sourced addition – they were bright, brought in the perfect melon tones, and provided a unique texture. The ferns added a fresh look and a bit of woodland, and the poppies helped give the electric, story book feel. We added in more poppies for Alkesta’s bouquet, some airy white astilbe, dripping peiris, and snow white nerine lily and some roses from my garden to add scent and a magical element.

The tables had white linen and white milk glass vases, which created the ideal backdrop for the bunches of brightly colored flowers. The high diversity of flowers types within each arrangement provided the more detailed look. The ferns and the wooden table numbers added the woodsy aspect. The American grown roses from Peterkort Roses really opened up to help give an bold, but whimsical look!

The flower wall was something we thought up as an unique piece to round out the reception decor. The aim was to create a living wall paper -something that had a cleaner feel than a traditional flower wall, while also allowing the details of each flower to be highlighted. It had hints of woodland and bohemian, while still holding to the themes of modern, bright, and eclectic.
