Black Tie Washington DC Wedding with a Floral Wall

Today’s couple met via good ol’ fashioned matchmaking thanks to a mutual friend, and after a proposal in Paris, this couple is set to work planning a chic celebration in Washington, DC! As you might expect, the day was filled with lots of glam details — including a lush floral wall filled with roses, peonies, hydrangea, and plenty of greenery thanks to Floral & Bloom Designs. Let’s get right to the images, wonderfully captured by Lisa Blume Photography:

From the bride: We loved the historical significance of Anderson House and wanted to find soft spring colors that complemented the interior. Rachel Ziegler of Floral & Bloom Designs created the most glorious flower wall, which was absolutely stunning. I love it so much that I wanted to take it home with me! Unfortunately, our officiant is deathly allergic to the types of flowers embedded in the wall. We didn’t know. We just thought he was really emotional that day… My favorite memory of the day was our first dance which was a surprise to the guests. It was hilarious. We are terrible dancers, to begin with… no amount of dance classes could have changed that. But we tried. It went from Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” to Haddaway’s “What is Love.” In the midst of stressful wedding planning – dance classes became our favorite time of the week. The intimacy you feel with your partner while stepping on their toes or trying to dip is incredible. We walked out laughing and closer every time.

I let Jesse pick the venue and by careful deliberation, he selected the most beautiful historic location. He spent many months trying to convince the venue coordinator to let us fire their cannon off. We had to use our rain back-up plan – flipping the ballroom post ceremony for an indoor reception with seating down the hallway that looks out onto the terrace. The mirrored walls, windows, soft florals, candlelight- my guests have not stopped raving about how romantic and beautiful it was. It was really enchanting.

What really made our wedding unique is the fact that instead of having a wedding party toast to us, we toasted to each of our guests. The people at the wedding represent so many facets of our life and the people we are as individuals through our experiences. They all contributed to us as a couple, like our matchmaker, but also our parents, family, and friends. We wanted to celebrate their presence and influence in our lives and thank them. They will be a large part of what will make our marriage successful!
