Breathtaking. That has to be the most accurate description for today’s styled shoot, from Morning Light by Michelle Landreau, Pretty Swell Parties, and Flowers by Yona, a team that put together one positively jaw-dropping scene inspired by Botticelli’s famous painting, Birth of Venus. Every one of our favorite colors for a romantic wedding comes to play here, from blush pink to deep burgundy to the finest of gold!
From the event designer, Pretty Swell Parties:
Inspired by the Italian renaissance painting, The Birth of Venus by Botticelli, we aimed to capture the essence of Venus, the goddess of beauty and love. In the painting, Venus is depicted as fresh-faced with flowing red locks. We drew on this idea of natural beauty to create a look for our bride that is airy and light with an ethereal dress and subtle makeup.
Choosing a location for this shoot was easy. Dunaway Gardens offers abundent woods that feel almost untouched against more manicured areas that exude effortless opulence. We chose to juxtapose the venue’s natural beauty with ornate details that call back to the luxury of the Italian renaissance. We opted for linens full of texture and grandeur that took their cue from the flowing garments of Venus’ companions; and chose flowers, including lush Italian Ranunculus, Red Charm Peonies, Caramel Antike Garden Roses and Juliette Garden Roses, in rich tones that evoke love and luxury.
Using traditional Italian elements was also very important. We incorporated olive branches into the florals and design of the cake and layered Italian cheeses with figs and paired them with Italian wine to tie everything together with the origins of the painting.
