Atlanta Arts Center Wedding

“Their wedding day was magical and held much significance to them — both sets of their parents got married on the exact same date — August 31st, 1974. Jessie and Zach had to choose August 31st as well!” When planner Kristine of Simply Charming Socials prefaced today’s wedding with this statement, we knew right away we were in for something pretty special – and the following images from Our Labor of Love by Heidi totally didn’t let us down.

From the bride, Jessie: From the start of the planning process, we knew we wanted our wedding to blend both of our styles while remaining elegant and simple. Zach is a designer – he loves the industrial look of urban loft spaces; I love all things vintage and like the eclectic look of things that are purposely not too match-y, perfect, or overly-themed. We also wanted the wedding as a whole to feel warm, inviting, and intimate. Somehow we were able to pull it all of and all of the elements combined to create a wedding that felt very “us.” We loved every detail!

The King Plow Arts Center (our venue) is very industrial/urban, but we brought in a lot of warmth, romance and softness with the lighting concepts and vintage-inspired, eclectic floral arrangements. We didn’t have a strict theme, but just stuck with a color palette of white, blush, cream, gold and champagne for all of our linens and florals. The floral arrangements also incorporated a lot of clear and mercury glass. We liked how these more romantic elements contrasted (yet somehow fit in perfectly) with the brick walls, concrete floors and overall industrial/urban vibe of the venue.

We DIYed several things for our wedding including: the escort card display and the escort cards themselves, the cake topper, “Reserved” signs for the front row of ceremony seats, framed pictures of our parents on their wedding days (we all now share the anniversary of August 31st), table numbers, other small signage (including “if you Instagram” signs, etc)., and a friend our married us, so we helped him with the ceremony script. We also were also lucky to be involved in the creation of the paper goods; my sister’s boyfriend, Roy Fleeman, is an amazing graphic designer. He created our save-the-dates, invitations, and wedding programs. Roy is also a very talented screen-printer – he printed all of our wedding invitations by hand! It was fun to go over to his house and watch the process take place; we even got to pull a few screen prints ourselves!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Looking back on how we allotted our budget, we agreed that some of our best spent money was for our photographer and our wedding coordinator. We took a lot of time to pick a photographer whose style we loved – after everything is over, all you have are your memories and your pictures so the photography was very important to us. We were glad that we went with someone of high quality (Heidi from Our Labor of Love) and didn’t try to pinch any pennies there. She was amazing! I also don’t know what we would have done without our Wedding Coordinator, Kristine. She was technically a “Day of” Coordinator but she did so much in the weeks leading up to the wedding as well (contacting vendors, organizing logistics, etc.). She organized our ceremony, created our whole wedding timeline and kept us on schedule all night. Zach and I, and our family members, were able to relax and have fun all day while Kristine kept everything organized. It was such a good decision to hire her!
