Art Deco week: the wedding cake

The first wedding to see a wholly edible multi-tiered cake was at the marriage of Queen Victoria’s daughter to Prince Leopold’s in 1882. Tiered cake was a symbol of wealth and status at society weddings since middle class people could not afford such sophisticated cake.
A traditional wedding cake of the 1920′s would simply consist of fruit cake and sugar icing. Fast forward 90 years and here are some modern versions of Art Deco inspired cakes:
