Aquamint Cotton Mill Wedding

Put two artists in charge of planning a party, and it’s going to be something else. Now have those two artists plan their own wedding, and you know it’s going to be out of this world! Justine and Jon married amidst hundreds of folded paper cranes in a gorgeous industrial space, and every second of the day was captured by Jillian Zamora Photography.

From the bride, Justine: I wanted our wedding to feel very handmade and personal. We are both artists so it seemed only fitting that we really had a hand in every little part. The style was somewhat rustic, industrial and a little bit modern too.

Papercrafts and chevron! I discovered an obsession with grey chevron, mint green and peach at the very beginning. The chevron table runners were a must have project for us. After that, my mom and I laboured over matching mason jars with cute mini paper roses and tiny flags for the vintage straws. We even had leftover fabric for some cake toppers! My favourite project was making hundreds of giant paper flowers inspired by my gown. Thankfully I have many generous friends and family willing to help out. We used tons of paint swatches for the seating chart and table numbers. Each table were labeled with the name of the colour so our guests sat at tables like “Chinchilla” “Nasturium” and “Peach à la Mode”. To top it all off I had an amazing out-of-state bridesmaid who folded us 1000 paper cranes because she wanted to help out!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My advice would be to to do as much as you can to make the day feel like your own. I walked in knowing we had done everything we could possibly do and could not have been happier with the result. With that note; absolutely do not try and do everything by yourself! Your friends and family love you and it feels so good knowing they’ll do whatever they can do help make your vision come true. Prioritize your time but don’t forget to enjoy the process! It’s supposed to be fun!

From the photographer, Jillian: Justine and Jon are both artists so when they approached me to photograph their wedding I was ecstatic because I knew it would be full of amazing color, design and fresh ideas. They did not disappoint. There were two full walls of hundreds of handmade origami paper cranes. A wall full of giant handmade paper flowers was the centerpiece to the reception. Justine is Chinese so the couple incorporated a customary Chinese tea ceremony into their reception for both sides of the families to show their blessings on the bride and groom. Justine and Jon changed into traditional Chinese red outfits for the ceremony. The couple also showed their quirkiness in the selection of the groom’s cake — Boba Fett’s helmet from Star Wars. One other fun fact: this was the very first wedding for Justine to ever attend. Isn’t that crazy that the first wedding she ever attended was her OWN?! I bet it’ll be her most favorite wedding to ever attend, too 🙂 She did most of the details herself, with the help of some of her bridesmaids.
