A Vintage Pennsylvania Wedding

Katie Slater of Carla Ten Eyck sent over the most creative, beautiful off/upbeat (you know what I mean, right?) vintage wedding that will blow your minds. If you live in the NY tristate area, keep your eyes peeled for their vendor list – though their wedding was in Milford, PA, they hired several vendors from Connecticut and New York. I squealed when I spotted her DIY tags made with one of our wedding templates!

From the bride, Leila:

We were fortunate to be allowed to get married at Grey Towers National Historic Landmark in Milford, PA (one of three weddings ever held on this amazing forest conservation estate). I spent my summers running around the grounds when I was a kid and the place holds a lot of significance to me on several levels.

For my attire, I wanted something unique, elegant and eye-catching. I found a vintage-styled dress at JCrew, where I also bought my shoes, and vamped up the theme with a 20th style finger weave hairstyle.

Matt’s suit…An interesting story. I think he asked me to marry him mainly to have an excuse to get a custom suit made by Manuel, (located in Nashville, TN). Matt pretty much just asked for suit with Joshua Trees, paying homage to Graham Parsons, and Manuel went to work. We were beyond happy with the result. I’m not a fan of tuxedos and really enjoyed seeing Matt wear something he loved and looked great in.

For décor, I wanted to choose a style that was timeless so as not to stand out from the 19th century architecture of the property, but with a slightly vintage garden theme, as my great-grandmother, who once lived at Grey Towers, and after whom I’m named, was an avid gardener.

For the seed packet favors, I bought yellow envelopes from PaperSource, onto which I typed using a typewriter, our information and the type of seed to be enclosed. The seed was from our garden, collected the previous fall.

So gorgeous! I grew up playing there too (we lived a few minutes’ walk away) and have always dreamed of having my wedding there. Funny coincidence seeing your pictures while my fiance and I are looking for a wedding venue for next spring. I really wish we could have a wedding as fantastic as yours- love the personal touch. Totally jealous- you go girl!

I just HAD to comment on this! I stumbled across and my heart jumped when I saw that you had your wedding at Grey Towers! I live in Milford and was told that we couldn’t have it there…I was pretty bummed but I’m still taking my photos there :) I don’t know if you’ve been there recently but it’s better than ever! SO BEAUTIFUL. You don’t happen to know Dino Bradlee, do you?! E-mail me if you do…I worked for him for years! xo
