New Orleans Inspiration Shoot

Wedding Design

This inspiration shoot from Holly and Britney of Magnolia Pair totally stole our hearts. Married couple Janell and Andre celebrated their two-year anniversary the day before the shoot, and it’s clear their “honeymoon stage” is still in full swing! We love how easily the pretty sterling silver, macaroons, and swirly calligraphy can translate into decor elements for a wedding reception. Thanks Holly and Britney!

From the photographers, Holly and Britney: We absolutely love New Orleans. There is no other city in the US quite like it… From the history, the food, the culture, it steals our heart every time we’re there. So our inspiration started with the city itself. We wanted to create an aesthetic that invited the viewers into a small snippet of Old New Orleans drawing from its European influences and southern charm. Race and Religious, a Creole Cottage located on the outskirts of downtown, was the perfect venue for our shoot. “A masterpiece of nostalgia, Race & Religious is a love song to New Orleans, a whimsical European fairytale, a spectacle of design, and foremost, a family home steeped in history.”

We worked with Maria from Tupelo Honey Design to come up with the invitation design and the sign for the couple to hold “c’est l’amour” and the “bon bon southern style macaroons” tying in the French influence. As for the suitcase with the handkerchiefs, it’s a New Orleans tradition for a bride and groom to have a Second Line Parade in which a Second Line brass band leads them and their guests in a musical parade waving handkerchiefs in the air. We love how that idea played out with the suitcase with the hankies in the glass bottles as a way for guests to ”de choisir” a hanky and join in the parade. It all really came together even more beautifully than we anticipated, and we are so thankful for all the creative minds that made it a reality!

Monique and Kyle’s South African wedding is full of heartwarmingly personal details. The couple married on the bride’s father’s farm, with one of the most incredibly gorgeous ceremony views we’ve ever seen! You know how much we love layers and layers of tulle in wedding gowns… and Monique’s dreamy dress left us swooning over it. Thanks to the wonderful Lizelle Lotter for sending her pictures our way!

From the bride, Monique: Our style was very personal to both myself and Kyle, who was VERY involved! It was based around a classic Italian/French post-harvest street festival, as it was also the end of the Wine Grape Harvest on our farm, where we got married!

Guests had the dress code of: Brown and blush, flat shoes and a hat! Our general colour scheme was a theme of creams, greys, blues and browns. Adjectives to describe our day include chilled, comfortable, fun, funny, relaxed, enjoyable. We did the name tags, gift boxes, table seating, painted tables, bridesmaids, groom and groomsmen “brooches” ourselves! Also the wire hearts!

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Give as much work to someone else! Make sure they know what you want, as well as another informed person to check up on them. Then LEAVE it! Difficult, but just do it, because otherwise you will be so tired and stressed out beforehand. There are always a million things you remember last minute. So as soon as you can get the main things delegated, you will not be as swamped by it closer to the time. And VERY important… make sure you are nowhere close to anyone who can bother you a whole day before your wedding. I went to a spa the whole day and it saved my life!

Wedding photographer Jen Huang has all but perfected the art of the wedding portrait. Kevin and Tinwin married in Wente Vineyards in Livermore, CA, with a color scheme of every pastel under the sun. There’s more where these came from, so don’t miss the gallery!

From the photographer, Jen: Kevin and Tinwin put together their beautiful candy table and had lavender with different colored ties to represent which entree the guest would be having. Small votives inside paper bags served as table numbers and a “just married” banner by Purple Peony couture, a paper parasol, and hand made mustaches were used for their bridal portraits.

Says the bride, Tinwin: Our vision was a spring garden and wine country themed wedding. Our colors were light peach, gray, taupe, light green, white, and yellow.
