Salt Lake City Wedding

DIY Weddings

We’re always so tickled when our brides find useful items via Ruffled- whether it’s DIY projects from the contest, unique dress styles, amazing wedding professionals, or decor ideas. Alyssa, the gorgeous bride, was able to integrate all kinds of vintage-inspired projects into her wedding to Noah this past year and we think the end result is just the sweetest. I love the aesthetic behind all of the film photos from Green Apple Photography as well. Crisp, clean and totally gorgeous.

From the bride, Alyssa: I wanted our wedding to embody a rustic vintage feel. Almost all of the details involved in our wedding were DIY projects. I made my brooch bouquet, bridesmaids bouquets, decorations, our pinata, centerpieces, etc. We didn’t have specific colors but we had a common color scheme of creams and pastels.

We knew we wanted our ceremony in the mountains so after a lot of searching we found the perfect little clearing up Millcreek Canyon in Salt Lake City, Utah. Just before the ceremony it had rained so everything was damp and beautiful.

We planned on having our reception in a friend’s backyard in South Jordan, Utah, but because of the rain we had to have the reception indoors at my family’s funeral home (sounds weird, I know, but it worked out great and looked just like a reception center.)

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? My advice would be have one detail like the dress or an object be inspiration for the rest of your wedding details. That helped me keep everything mesh well together.

Woodsy Winter Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Opting for a quick two month engagement, Sara and Daniel called on their inner crafting egos to pull together a charming California wedding in the bride’s sister’s yard. Their budget-friendly winter wedding brought together all kinds of skilled hands: the groom’s sister-in-law made all of those delicious desserts and styled the table, the groom himself made all of the boys’ boutonnieres and the wood details for the tables and a family friend created that awesome branding iron with the couple’s initials. Photographer Brady Puryear took full advantage of those amazingly moody winter skies to get some dramatic portraits of the bride and groom. Thanks for sending it over, Brady!

From the bride, Sara: We wanted to create the feel of being outdoors in the winter, with naked trees all around us. We wanted to keep the tables simple and clean with white tablecloths and woodsy centerpieces. We used alot of browns and greens in the decorations as well as in our wedding attire.

We looked around at a few different venues in Riverside, CA. But with only a few months to plan and most having limited timeframes we decided to get married in my sister’s backyard in Lake Elsinore, CA. We really wanted to have the ceremony and reception in the same place and keep our cost down.

The wood photo wall and wood centerpieces were cut and created by my husband. I branded the wood, and centerpieces were designed & arranged by a family friend, Sabrina. The food and dessert table were created and arranged by my husband’s sister, Karen.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Try and get as much done up front so that you have more time for the little details. Make sure you have a backup plan for weather conditions, and when things don’t go as planned…..don’t stress, you’re getting married to each other. At the end of the day, that’s what really matters!
